About Us

DACOU is the acronym for Dreaming Art Centre Of Utopia, and was founded by Fred Torres in 1993. Since its inception DACOU has become firmly entrenched in the art world and is recognised as the leading supplier of quality Utopian art.

Our gallery specialises in art from the Utopia region, located 270kms north- east of Alice Springs. The Utopia area is not only an area of great artistic importance but is a second home to Fred, who regularly sets up workshops in Utopia or Alice Springs. The objective of these workshops is not only to collect quality pieces of art, but to spend time with the artists who are also members of his family. These include Barbara Weir (Fred’s mother),  Gloria and Anna Petyarre (Fred's aunties) plus many others.

This direct and important family connection is the key factor to DACOU’S success. Fred’s commitment to the artists welfare ensures each person is looked after and fairly acknowledged in their artistic creativity. DACOU provides artists with the highest quality canvas, paints, oils and brushes ensuring the longevity of each piece of work and where possible images of works in progress are captured and available for viewing.

Our galleries in Melbourne and around Australia stock an extensive selection of paintings ranging from the unique tourist gift to artworks of significant importance and collectable value. We provide a certificate of authenticity with every painting and information on the artist and their Dreaming
