Painted Wii consoles for auction
The auction has now been completed and $4000 was raised for charity.
Benefiting indigenous education
Auction date: 25 February to 6 March.
100% funds raised will be donated to Shalom Gamarada - Indigenous Medical Student Scholarship at the University of NSW.
Nintendo has commissioned four of the country’s most highly regarded indigenous artists, represented by DACOU, to paint inspired artworks on 8 Wii consoles.
All money raised will be donated to the Shalom Gamarada Scholarship Programme. This scholarship programme aims to encourage indigenous students to complete their university education by providing financial support and has succeeded in making a significant impact in lowering the drop-out rate within the indigenous community.
Highly acclaimed artists involved in this exciting project include Gloria Petyarre, Barbara Weir, Emily Pwerle and sister Gayla Pwerle.
The Wii artwork consoles will be auctioned in custom built acrylic display cases and will be non-playable to ensure the preservation of the artwork. The winning bidders however will also receive a separate, playable, Wii Console (RRP $299.95).
